Thinking About Thinking: How I'm Upgrading My Firmware

Recently, I’ve been absorbed in the concept of metacognition or thinking about how I think. As I reflect on my own mental models, learning processes, and beliefs,I always come back to the same question:

“Are my studies and daily actions structured in a Pareto-like fashion?”
In other words, what are the essential things I need to master and integrate into my being to achieve the maximum results?

A few books in my current rotation follow this theme.

In Ultralearning, Scott Young shares the techniques and principles of mastering hard skills quickly. Scott is well-known for completing MIT’s computer science curriculum within one year. I’ve just begun reading the book, but I’m already excited to apply the principles to both my Spanish and certification studies.

In a somewhat similar vein, Sobrenatural (i.e., the Spanish version of Becoming Supernatural by Joe Dispenza) explores mindfulness and the mind-body connection. Having read many of Neville Goddard’s works, whose ideas on self-observation connect closely with Dispenza’s principles, I’ve long practiced observing my thoughts from the "seat of the observer." However, I’ve started integrating Joe’s techniques before studying or meetings with noticeable results.

Finally, Exam Ref AZ-104 Microsoft Azure Administrator and Beyond by Donavan Kelly is a great blend of practical labs and tips that go beyond test prep. I really enjoy the book and even after certification, I know it’ll remain a go-to reference for me.

As we move deeper into an AI-driven world, this human in the loop realizes it’s time for a firmware upgrade.
